Formation mechanism of barium calcium sulfoaluminate mineral

Abstract: Barium calcium sulfoaluminate (C 2 : 75 B 1 : 25 A 3 S _ ) mineral was prepared with analytical pure chemical reagents calcium carbonate, aluminium oxide, barium carbonate and barium sulfate. The sintering temperature and formation mechanism of the C 2 : 75 B 1 : 25 A 3 S _ mineral were investigated by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry/ thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectrometer analysis. The effect of iron (III) oxide on the C 2 : 75 B 1 : 25 A 3 S _ … Show more

“…The result is in accordance with the X-ray diffraction analysis. At 1000 °C, BaCO 3 decomposes thoroughly (35). Therefore, the vibration band at 1450 cm −1 is mainly attributed to the portlandite carbonation.…”

“…The hydrating induction period of C 2.75 B 1.25 A 3 $ is much shorter than that of C 4 A 3 S [20]: the hydration of C 2.75 B 1.25 A 3 $ begins to accelerate at 4 h and most of the hydration heat is released at 4-12 h. By contrast, the hydration of C 4 A 3 $ mineral begins to accelerate at 23 h and its hydration heat at 42 h is equal to that of C 2.75 B 1.25 A 3 $ at 12 h. It is thus clear why C 2.75 B 1.25 A 3 $ mineral has the superior performances in terms of early strength and high strength.…”

“…The strengths of the SMPC8 and SMPC10 pastes cured for 7 days were 17.5 % and 20.2 % higher than PC respectively. It was indicated that sulfur aluminum barium calcium was a new early-strength mineral [21] and its hydration speed and contribution to the strength was superior to C 3 S, so SMPC8 and SMPC10 had higher hydration speed and compressive strength.…”
