Formation and Structural Characterization of Metal Complexes derived from Thiosalicylic Acid

Abstract: The formation and structural aspects of some metal complexes of thiosalicylic acid (TSA) were studied. The μ‐bridging tetra‐coordinated Ru complex, [Ru(C6H4(CO2)(μ‐S)(H2O)]2 (1) was formed by hydrothermal reaction of TSA with RuCl3. The complexes [M(dtdb)(phen)(H2O)]n (2–4) (M = ZnII, CoII, NiII, dtdb = 2,2′‐dithiodibenzoate anion, phen = 1,10‐phenanthroline) were obtained by the slow diffusion technique and the in situ S–S bond formation was confirmed by elemental, spectral and X‐ray analysis. Reaction of TSA… Show more

“…Again, a new peak at 475 cm –1 has appeared, suggesting the formation of the S–S bond (Figure S3). Therefore, the generation of the S–S bond in 1 has been corroborated by IR spectroscopy. The thermal stability of 1 was examined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) within the temperature range of 32–900 °C (Figure S4).…”

“…In this regard, we thought of utilizing 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-mba) for the purpose of in situ generation of 4,4′-disulfanediyldibenzoic (H 2 4,4′-dsb) in the synthesis of CPs (Scheme ). The in situ ligand generation also puts forward the concept of omitting the necessity of ligand preparation prior to the complex formation reaction . Due to its unique ability to develop compounds that cannot be produced via conventional synthetic pathways, in situ ligand synthesis has recently become a favored synthetic pathway to harvest new CPs .…”

“…Moreover, in contrast with discrete MOP-1, the cuboctahedral clusters of IMU-108 are cage-based, rmly linked by in-situ S-S bonds. The S-S additional bond provides further rigid structure and stability [71][72][73][74] . To con rm our envision, a stability test of IMU-108 was performed.…”
