Formation and decay of resonance states in Be9 and B9 nuclei: Microscopic three-cluster model investigations

Abstract: We study the nature of the low-lying resonance states in mirror nuclei 9 Be and 9 B. Investigations are performed within a three-cluster model. The model makes use of the hyperspherical harmonics, which provides a convenient description of the three-cluster continuum. The dominant three-cluster configurations α + α + n and α + α + p in 9 Be and 9 B, respectively, are taken into account. Dominant decay channels for all resonance states in 9 Be and 9 B are explored. Much attention is paid to the controversial 1/… Show more

“…This problem has been discussed in Refs. [16,22] where spectra of 9 B and 9 Be were investigated. To avoid appearance unphysical bound states, we adjust parameters m and u to reproduce the energy of the ground state measured from the three-cluster threshold.…”

“…In this paper we will not discuss the dependence of parameters of resonance states on K max and N ch , and the convergence of the obtained results, as they were addressed in Refs. [15][16][17][18]22].…”

“…They are, for example, the 1/2 + resonance states in the three-cluster continuum of 9 Be and 9 B, 11 B and 11 C. As it was shown in Refs. [24,29,32], these resonance states have very a dispersed three-cluster structure. Therefore, the Coulomb shifts are equal R C =0.429 and R C =0.492 MeV, respectively, for these pairs of the mirror nuclei.…”

“…In this Rapid Communication we focus on the A = 9 system. These light nuclei provide a fertile testing ground for recently developed tools in nuclear theory (such as ab initio calculations) and have also been described using sophisticated cluster models [18][19][20][21]. The latest compilation [5] shows that its first T = 3/2 quartet requires a d = 6.7 ± 1.5 keV cubic term for a satisfactory fit to the data.…”
