Formation and characterization of silver nanoparticles in aqueous solution via ultrasonic irradiation

Abstract: In this study, a simple and green method to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in aqueous solution via ultrasonic irradiation has been developed. Ultrafine Ag NPs with average diameter of 8 nm were obtained through sonicating aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH, 0.1 mM) with adding silver nitrate solution (AgNO3, 5.88 mM) drop by drop. In pure aqueous solution, the reactive route related to hydroxyl radicals (OH) is presented. Furthermore, in alkaline aqueous solution, the effects of hydroxyl ions… Show more

“…In particular, we performed a green synthesis sonochemical process to reduce Ag ions to form AgNPs by using ultrasonic method without the use of dangerous stabilizing agents such as any reducing agent and surfactant [26]. The breaking of cavitation bubbles under high temperature and pressure and the hydrogen radicals (H*) and hydroxyl radicals (OH*) in the water formed by the ultrasonic effect play an important role in the reduction of Ag ions and the formation of AgNPs [27].…”

“…Silver plays an important role in drug delivery, wastewater treatment, agriculture, biosensor and textile industries [13][14][15] . The synthesis of nanoparticles by various physical and chemical methods, such as ultrasonic irradiation [16] , laser ablation [17] , evaporative cooling [18] , chemical vapor deposition [19] , explosion [20] , impregnation [21] , co-precipitation [22] , sol-gel [23] and deposition-precipitation [24] , has been reported extensively. However, there is still a need for a more economic, commercially and eco-friendly route to synthesize silver nanoparticles.…”
