Abstract

Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) can be related to remnant regions of modified forests and rural spaces tend to store vectors and reservoirs. This study aimed to evaluate the epidemiological situation of VL in municipalities that support agrarian reform settlements, belonging to the Health Region of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, and to establish relationship with the existence of surveillance and control measures for the disease. The municipalities studied were classified according to the structure of the zoonoses service and epidemiological situation, applying spatial analysis and cartographic information treatment. The data collection of strategies for the prevention and control of Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis (CVL) and its periodicity (continuous actions, punctual or without actions) occurred through an online questionnaire, which could be answered by professionals responsible for the Program of Control of Vectors/Zoonoses of their municipalities. Of 45 municipalities, 19 (42.2%) have a total of 121 settlements, facing different scenarios. The health surveillance for CVL carried out by the Unified Health System in the agrarian reform settlements of the study areas proved to be precarious and vulnerable. There was a close relationship between the availability and performance of the zoonoses team and the VL situation, especially in the silent municipalities (receptive or not).
