Mechanical properties and formability of TWIP900 steel, which is a new material for automotive industry, are investigated. TWIP steels have a good combination of high strength and high formability. Therefore, they are very attractive for the automotive industry. The energy absorption capability of the steel during collisions is a significant advantage. The biggest disadvantage of this steel is the relatively high springback of stamped parts. Tensile and springback behaviors of the material are investigated and compared with DP600 steel which is widely used in automotive industry. Besides, yield surfaces and forming limit diagrams for both materials are modelled and compared with each other. Results indicate that the use of TWIP steel will contribute weight reduction significantly, but the springback issue needs to be resolved. In finite element modelling of TWIP steel, it is seen that the Swift model gives more accurate results than the Backofen and Holloman models.

In recent years, numerous researchers have focused on the determination of the formability limits of the sheet materials experimentally and numerically. Due to some troubles encountered during the experimental studies, the modeling of the formability characteristics of the materials via simple experiments like tensile tests is the main issue for the most researchers. In the literature, most of the developed model results strongly depend on yield functions used and their parameters which reflect the materials' anisotropic behaviors. In this study, the capability of BBC family yield functions (BBC2000, 2003(BBC2000, , 2005(BBC2000, and 2008 are investigated to construct the forming limit diagram of 304L stainless steel by using the Marciniak-Kuczynski instability model. The models are evaluated for different anisotropy determination approaches and the predicted results have been compared with the experimental forming limit diagram. Deneysel çalışmalar esnasında birçok zorluklarla karşılaşılmasından ötürü, birçok araştırmacı için malzemelerin şekillendirme karakteristiklerini çekme deneyi gibi basit deneylerden modellenerek elde edilmesi temel bir mesele haline gelmiştir. Literatürde geliştirilen birçok model sonucu kullanılan akma yüzey fonksiyonlarına ve malzemelerin anizotropik davranışlarını yansıtan model parametrelerine büyük ölçüde bağlı bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında BBC ailesi (BBC2000, 2003(BBC2000, , 2005(BBC2000, ve 2008 akma yüzeyleri Marciniak-Kuczynski kararsızlık modeli ile 304L paslanmaz çeliğin şekillendirme sınır diyagramının oluşturulması noktasında kullanılmıştır. Abstract. The last decades llave been characterized by a fast evolution of cars. This work shows the evolution of vehicle weight. It sI10ws the response of car manufacturers using new materials and production meUlods that allow lighter vehicles with lower consumption, cheaper and with 1000ver influence 011 the greenhouse effect. One of the materials which means a most interesting change is the TWIP steel. This material is characterized by its high strengUl, his exceptional strain and excellent formabílily as weH as lower energy consumption in Uleir manufacture. TWIP steel are changing to\vards cheaper compositions and higber perfonl1ance, and it's going to be great influence in the vehicle weight reduction in tbe next years.
