Forging Condition for Removing Porosities in the Hybrid Casting and Forging Process of 7075 Aluminum Alloy Casting

Abstract: In this study, the ranges of compression ratio for the successful implementation of hybrid casting and forging process for 7075 aluminum alloy are investigated. Hybrid casting and forging process combines the advantages of casting and forging processes. In this process, a near net shape preform is first cast and the casting is subsequently forged. The casting defects such as shrinkage porosity can be eliminated by forging and the number of forging steps can also be reduced. Therefore, the production cost can b… Show more

“…The alloy used is the A356 modified with strontium which combines good mechanical properties and castability. The forging step enables to close and weld cast shrinkage porosities with good mechanical properties [1,2]. This also allowed a drastic reduction of the wall thickness in the arm.…”

“…For this reason, some researchers prefer to process the cast slab directly and have developed a series of processing techniques to do this, such as continuous casting and rolling, casting-forging hybrid forming, and casting/spinning forming, etc. [1,5,34]. Although these techniques pose more severe challenges to the formability of as-cast alloys, several studies have emphasized the feasibility and superiority of the direct hot working of as-cast Al-Mg-Zn-Cu alloys [33,[35][36][37].…”

“…The concept of the cast/forge process was proposed by Fujikawa et al [14] Chang et al introduced the cast/forge hybrid process to reduce the porosity of 7075 aluminum alloy castings [15]. The tripods produced with this process were shown at ALUMINUM CHINA 2018, Shanghai, New International Expo Centre (2018/07/ [11][12][13].…”
