Evaluative choices and rhetorical impact:American learners ofPersian as a foreign language writing to appraise

“…Some scholars have noted that since the existing research literature has predominantly focused on beginning and intermediate levels of language learning, and mostly in ESL contexts, little is known about what advanced language use in a foreign language entails that could guide educators in their efforts to develop appropriate curricula once their students move beyond these initial stages of language study (e.g. Brecht ; Crane ). One solution around the problem, inspired by the Australian genre pedagogy in particular (Cope and Kalantzis ; Christie ), has been to explore the textual practices and meaning potentials in genres of use in various spheres of human social life.…”
