FOREST unbiased Galactic plane imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45 m telescope (FUGIN). I. Project overview and initial results

Abstract: The FOREST Unbiased Galactic plane Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope (FUGIN) project is one of the legacy projects using the new multi-beam FOREST receiver installed on the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. This project aims to investigate the distribution, kinematics, and physical properties of both diffuse and dense molecular gas in the Galaxy at once by observing 12 CO, 13 CO, and C 18 O J = 1 − 0 lines simultaneously. The mapping regions are a part of the 1st quadrant (10• ) of the Galaxy, where spira… Show more

“…However, it is worth mentioning that there are mainly two cloud components in the direction of M17 (particularly in the direction of C and D components), at VLSR∼ 20 and 40 (Lada 1976); and as seen by 13 CO , the emission from the latter component is mainly distributed in the latitude range -0.2 • to 0.00 • (e.g. Umemoto et al 2017), therefore unrelated to the area studied in this work. Moreover, from the work of Busquet et al (2013) one can find that the most dense dust continuum clumps of M17SWex are positionally coinciding with the velocity of the ammonia gas at VLSR∼ 20±2 km s −1 .…”

“…The morphological relation with the SNR and the line ratios (Section 3. In order to find MCs associated with the SNR, we have investigated high-resolution 12 CO J = 1-0 data obtained as a part of the FUGIN CO survey (Umemoto et al 2017; see also Section 2.2). Figure 7 displays the 12 CO J = 1-0 line channel maps between +48 and +85 km s −1 .…”

“…The derived physical properties are listed in Table 1. 2.2. 12 CO J = 1-0 Archival Data In order to search MCs associated with the SNRs, we utilize the high-resolution 12 CO J = 1-0 data from the FOREST (FOur-beam REceiver System on the 45 m Telescope) Unbiased Galactic Plane Survey with Nobeyama 45 m telescope (FUGIN; Umemoto et al 2017), which is one of the legacy projects utilizing the new multibeam receiver FOREST. The receiver has a wide bandwidth to obtain J = 1-0 emission-line data of 12 CO, 13 CO, and C 18 O simultaneously.…”

“…The 12 CO emission along our filaments is taken from the FU-GIN datacubes (Umemoto et al 2017). We first create a T ex cube from the 12 CO data at the FUGIN spatial resolution (20 ′′ ), then we smoothed these maps to the GRS resolution (55 ′′ ).…”
