Forest, Foods, and Nutrition

Abstract: Forest ecosystems are an important biodiversity environment resource for many species. Forests and trees play a key role in food production and have relevant impact also on nutrition. Plants and animals in the forests make available nutrient-rich food sources, and can give an important contributions to dietary diversity, quality, and quantity. In this context, the Special Issue, entitled “Forest, Food and Nutrition”, is focused on the understanding of the intersection and linking existing between forests, food… Show more

“…The low habitat specificity and vigorous re-sprouting of Griffonia simplicifolia after cutting, plus its occurrence in forest reserves and national parks, confer some resilience on wild populations. This study is well presented with respect to the strict linkage existing between food and territory [27,28].…”

“…In this context, biodiversity is associated with a wide variety of natural compounds, with a wide possibility of developing new drugs, agrochemicals, fragrances, cosmetics, ingredients, and food supplements, providing a catalog of opportunities for biotechnological innovation and an unbeatable competitive advantage [2,3]. Nowadays, modeling the strict linkage between environmental, ecological and food resources in the biodiversity and health benefits perspectives represent great challenges [4,5].…”

“…Nutrition, health, and environmental sustainability are strictly linked throughout the food system. Assessments of the environmental protection such as soil quality and landscaping, ecological resources, animal wellness, and appropriate farming-based land-use, have led to an improvement of the product quality [ 1 , 2 ]. This perspective aims at giving an updated look into bee products, biodiversity, sustainability, and health relationships.…”
