“…For example, this has been done for rice starch or TiO 2 particles. 47,49 In solution, intra-microgel interactions, which dominate the deswelling, also lead to inter-microgel aggregation. 3,84 Measurements where both the probe and the monolayer are made from the same material, e.g.…”

“…The MPIA has already been successfully used to measure the interaction between different probes in aqueous solutions and films of surfactants, soft particles, or rigid particles at air-aqueous interfaces as a function of pH, salt concentration and lateral compression. [45][46][47][48][49] We investigated two pNIPAM-based microgels with different volume phase transition temperatures (VPTT). The different VPTTs were achieved by copolymerizing N,N -diethylacrylamide (DEAAM) and NIPAM in one of the microgels.…”

“…of the air/aqueous interface can be systematically studied. Here, we used a combined Langmuir trough and optical microscope system, and the Monolayer Interaction Particle Apparatus (MPIA) (McNamee et al, 2015 ; McNamee and Kappl, 2016 ; Azakami et al, 2017 ), which allows the interactions between the particles to be studied at the same time as the particle packing density and bulk phase properties are varied. In this study, we compared native rice starch particles (NRS) and rice starch particles that were modified with OSA to different degrees.…”
