Abstract:There exist many different types of meditation. The mechanism why meditation improves people's health remains unclear. Since different meditations may activate different regions in brain, we can use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate it. We may simply divide meditation into two different types, which is forced meditation (FM) and non-forced meditation (NFM). The FM type may keep a phrase in mind, observe breathing, proceed mind imaging or any other actions to keep people's attention fo… Show more
“…outcomes among meditators. Some early functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) research identified distinctive forms of brain activation during focused versus nonfocused forms of meditation (Liou et al, 2006;Chapter 11 in this volume). But only a small number of studies have explored whether these distinctive brain activation patterns associated with different types of meditation lead to observable outcome differences.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
