Force-touch measurement methodology based on user experience

Abstract: The touch interface is an input method widely used in smart devices. Recently, new touch interface which supports force value has been introduced. The force-touch interface adds a factor called depth to the plane coordinates as compared to the existing touch interface. Despite the advantages of force-touch, which can provide touch position and force intensity information with one input, there are still many devices that cannot support force values. To provide them with a force-touch interface, we developed a f… Show more

“…Among the related studies, the keystroke-based technique that extracts user’s touch behaviors, such as touch time and force amplitude, to detect emotion is advantageous for its low cost [ 57 ]. However, using touch sensing products that have low accuracy will result in long-term text input, and therefore limits its use [ 58 ]. Due to the high sensitivity of the piezoelectric touch panel, it can achieve high accuracy without long text input and is a suitable approach for detecting emotion.…”

“…It raised a problem that if a user performs 3D-Touch against low pressure, the error rate could increase. In addition, the research was conducted on the basis of 2D-Touch to distinguish 2D-Touch and 3D-Touch [9]. When user press the display with any pressure on 2D-Touch, can't measure any pressure after 200ms.…”

“…Ghosh et al [40] collect users' typing and swiping features for 3 weeks on an Andriod smartphone and achieve an average accuracy of 73% on 4 motions by a random forest (RF) model. However, these studies require users' long-term text input, because of the unsatisfied forcesensing precision supported by the current mainstream touch sensing products [41][42].…”
