FoodSQRBlock: Digitizing food production & supply chain with blockchain & QR code in the cloud

Abstract: <div><div><div><p>Food safety is an important issue in today’s world. Traditional agri-food production system doesn’t offer easy traceability of the produce at any point of the supply chain, and hence, during a food-borne outbreak, it is very difficult to sift through food production data to track produce and origin of the outbreak. In recent years, blockchain based food production system has resolved this challenge, however, none of the proposed methodologies makes the food production … Show more

“…In case of the single node, the vehicle manufacturer could assign a Ethereum generated QR code to each vehicle. This creates the trust among stakeholders since there is no human intervention or third-party involvement in assigning the QR code [83][84][85][86][87]. It is generated by the Ethereum blockchain node itself, no one can tamper the code.…”

“…Among others, one of the attempts is to implement blockchain technology, to supply detailed information about products, sources of materials, and production processes [ 43 ], with the double advantage of: (i) advancing the agri-food industry towards healthier and safer practices, and (ii) making consumers more informed [ 44 , 45 ], in this case about what they are eating, while nudging them towards a more balanced diet. An additional advantage is that multiple information might be made available in a friendly and accessible way to consumers, through QR codes and link texts showed on food packages [ 46 , 47 ]. Thus, consumers can easily access information in the retail shop, for example through interactive kiosks, and check it in every moment without consulting the internet.…”
