“…Such differences can lead to variations in the quality of data reported, difficulty in data integration and comparison and interpretation [ 90 ]. A plan of action to make improvements to ASEAN RASFF was adopted at the ASEAN ministerial meeting on agriculture and forestry in 2018, which runs through 2023 [ 91 ]. Such efforts to improve this and other regional networks and tools would benefit from also considering the programme theory developed in this review and addressing issues related to the national context and the status of the various mechanisms identified to facilitate their use better.…”

“…With the increasing concern about sustainability, food microbiologists are also playing a role in the development of more environmentally friendly food production methods. For example, the use of microorganisms for food preservation and the creation of new, sustainable food products are becoming increasingly important (Schlundt et al, 2020). The use of microorganisms for food preservation, such as the use of lactic acid bacteria for the production of fermented foods, is a sustainable alternative to traditional food preservation methods, such as heat treatment and chemical preservatives.…”

“…It is worth noting that the food security debate has become more intense while considering the food safety concerns due to foodborne diseases, which are typically caused by the toxic chemical viruses, bacteria and parasites that enter into the human body through contaminated food (Schlundt et al, 2020;Potter, 2021). As stated in the World Health Organization's 2022 report, more than 200 foodborne diseases, including diarrhea and cancer, impact all age groups, from newborns and young children to the elderly and the chronically ill (Gallo et al, 2020;Schlundt et al, 2020;Potter, 2021). Moreover, 1/10th, about 600 million people worldwide became sick, while 33 million healthy people died after consuming contaminated food.…”
