“…In GCs, synthesis of E2 is regulated by many factors, including CYP19A1, which is an important rate‐limiting enzyme. Some endocrine‐disrupting compounds in the environment downregulate expression of CYP19A1, which has been linked to female infertility (Wang, Pan, et al, 2019). Hence, CYP19A1 has become an important target for the prevention and treatment of estrogen‐dependent diseases.…”

“…Interestingly, the increased T level in the serum did not reflect the change of serum E2 level. The serum estradiol level depends on not only the biosynthesis in the testis and peripheral tissues such as fat tissue due to the catalysis of aromatase but also on the metabolism in the liver 31 . However, the exact mechanism remains unclear.…”

“…During pregnancy, fetal- and maternal-originated DHEAS enters the placenta, where it is metabolized into androstenedione and testosterone, which are further catalysed into estradiol and estrone by placental aromatase enzyme (CYP19A1) [ 14 ]. This potent aromatase eliminates androgen buildup in the maternal circulation and facilitates downstream placental production of estrogens [ 15 , 16 ]. In our case, both testosterone and DHEAS are secreted by SLCT and serve as the main substrates of the extremely high serum estradiol.…”
