“…Oral hygiene maintenance and absence of signs of inflammation in the peri-implant region is stated to be of paramount importance for long-term success of oral implants (Jepsen et al, 2015;Tonetti et al, 2015). In this investigation, HNC-TR and HNC-TR/RT did not show significant differences in terms of mPI, mBI and PD ,but both groups showed higher scores compared to C. Poor oral hygiene, as consequence of intraoral surgical ablations or irradiationcaused effects (e.g., xerostomia) is described in literature (Rinstad et al, 2020). Therefore, prophylactic and maintaining care programs for HNC patients are deemed necessary.…”

“…Implant passage through a flap did not have a significant effect on peri-implant health; however, the implants also showed slightly increased inflammation values. Rinstad et al reported poor oral hygiene in patients with head and neck cancer due to the consequences of the surgical ablations (e.g., reduced mouth opening, scarring, fibrosis) (Rinstad et al, 2020). Furthermore, there are reports in the literature of increased plaque accumulation and soft tissue inflammation in patients with xerostomia after irradiation (Pieralli et al, 2021).…”
