Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma in the right chest wall

Abstract: Rationale: Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare malignant tumor that originates from germinal center follicular dendritic cells, and can occur at both nodal and extranodal sites. There are very few described cases of FDCS arising in the chest wall. Patient concerns: A 44-year-old male patient presented with a history of right chest wall pain for 5 months. “…Current treatment options include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy alone or in combination. Although surgical resection is the preferred treatment, for cases that cannot be resected or patients with tumor recurrence and metastasis after resection, chemotherapy or radiotherapy is still required ( 21 ). In addition, FDCS is regarded as lymphoma or sarcoma according to its tumor cell origin, and thus, cyclophosphamide, epirubicin, oncovin, prednisone (CHOP) chemotherapy is used in certain patients; however, the therapeutic effect of CHOP chemotherapy in patients with FDCS is lower than that in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.…”

“…Complete surgical excision is the main treatment option for FDC sarcoma, [22] and adjuvant therapy (chemotherapy or radiation), which greatly improves survival rates. [23] Poor prognosis signs of a high mitotic activity include intra-lesion necrosis, a mass more than 6 cm, intraabdominal lesions, and a high proliferative lesion. [3] Conclusion FDC sarcoma is not very common.…”
