Folk Remedies of Medicinal Plants for Snake Bites, Scorpion Stings and Dog Bites in Eastern Ghats of Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu, India

Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella typhi, which remains a serious problem in developing country. The traditional Vaidya belonging to various tribes are using folk medicine to prevent and cure the various diseases including Typhoid. The herbs used for Typhoid from various national-international journals and discussed. Most of the mentioned herbs have Katu-Tikta Rasa, Krimighna and Jvaragna property which help to displace or kill the microbe by Prakriti Vighat by decreasing Kapha and Malas on which these microorganisms lodges, flourish, grows and increase in numbers, thus leading to disease. Most of the mentioned folk herbs used for Typhoid have significant result in vitro and in vivo antimicrobial activity as well as clinical efficacy and also justified the concept of Ayurveda. Hence it can be stated that Typhoid can be treated by giving herbal drug which is already in use by traditional Vaidya and tribes in India, though there is further need of documentation for experimental and clinical study.

Anti-Inflammation Tablet of Legundi (Vitex Trifolia L.) Ethanol Extract With Variation of Sodium Starch Glycolate

This article reports the formulation of tablets of ethanol extract Legundi as an adjuvant to anti-inflammatory drugs on breast cancer. Extraction was done by maceration method in 95% ethanol. Furthermore, the standardized extract which includes the calculation of yield, moisture content, ash content, TLC, and phytochemical screening. Tablet formulations prepared by wet granulation method in five variations of concentrations of Na-starch glycolate as a disintegrator. Fifth formula made have met the criteria of granules or tablets before felted mass of a good, include the levels of drying shrinkage (LOD), compressibility, flow rate and angle of rest. Fifth formula also has met the criteria for a good tablet includes uniformity of weights and measures, friability, and disintegration time. The results of this study indicate that the variation in concentrations of Na-starch glycolate as a disintegrator in the formula III is the most optimal concentration, i.e by 25 mg at the time were destroyed during the 12 minutes 36 seconds.

The importance of medicinal plants in traditional health care practices has been emphasized at the global level by world health organization. Plants have been used since old days as a traditional, valuable, cheap, local source of medicine in all parts of the world 2. The traditional knowledge of medicinal plants of a particular region for curing various diseases/ailments has been the practice all over India since long time. The world health organization, has reported that 80% of the world population relies on traditional medicines as first aid treatment for various health problems 3 . WHO has recommended the use of alternative traditional health care systems as first aid for treating various health problems? In recent years use of plant based medicines is on rise due to various advantages. In view of the above information the present study aims to gather information on traditional medicinal Plant resources from Maval Taluka, District Pune, used for treating various diseases/ailments as a first aid treatment in the region. Accordingly a Manual Random survey was undertaken. A questionnaire was prepared & interviews were undertaken to fill up the questionnaire. Approximately 515 persons were interviewed. The study helped in documentation, creating awareness & application of the knowledge of medicinal plants used in the region, amongst wider section of the people residing in the area.
