Foliar application of zinc oxide nanoparticles and grafting improves the bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) productivity grown in NFT system

Abstract: The bell pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is a food vegetable with a high nutritional intake, with rich content in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. In this study, using nutrient film technique (NFT) system, the effect of the zinc oxide nanoparticles on the micromorphology, histology, physiology and production of the grafted pepper was evaluated. The treatments used were grafted and non-grafted plants, four concentrations (0, 10, 20, 30 mg L-1) of zinc oxide nanoparticles, and the experience was organized in a c… Show more

“…In Mexico, research is also being carried out on nanoparticles that can help the development of sustainable agriculture. The use of zinc oxide nanoparticles proved to increase yield bell pepper production (Uresti-Porras et al, 2021), zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles had exerted control against Bactericera cockerelli as a pest of tomato (Gutiérrez-Ramírez et al, 2021), and zinc oxide nanoparticles have antifungal activity towards Fusarium oxysporum-Solanum lycopersicum in tomato-fusarium pathosystem (González-Merino et al, 2021).…”

“…It is known that zinc oxide (ZnO) is a promising multifunctional compound broadly utilized in many applications [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. ZnO is used in optoelectronics [ 6 , 7 ], agriculture [ 8 ], wastewater treatment [ 9 , 10 , 11 ] and catalysis [ 12 , 13 ] as a vulcanization activator for rubbers, a hardener or a crosslinking agent for elastomers [ 14 , 15 ], and in the production of electrically conductive carbon materials [ 16 ]; it is also used in the cosmetics, medicine and biotechnology industries [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ], including its use in the elaboration of biodegradable antibacterial packaging [ 22 , 23 ], and photovoltaic solar cells for “green” energy [ 24 , 25 ].…”
