FOLIAR APPLICATION OF SALICYLIC ACID AND GIBBERELLIC ACID ENHANCES GROWTH AND FLOWERING OF Ixora coccinea L. PLANTS

Abstract: Foliar application effects of salicylic acid (SA) and gibberellic acid (GA 3) were investigated on growth and flowering of Ixora coccinea L. plants. Four concentrations (100, 200, 300 and 400 ppm) of both SA and GA 3 were sprayed in addition to the control (water-sprayed plants). Results indicated that all growth and flowering characteristics of Ixora plants were increased by all concentrations of SA or GA 3 compared to the untreated plants. Concerning salicylic acid, the lowest concentration (100 ppm) produce… Show more

“…In addition, gibberellins effect on other developmental responses such as dormancy, sex expression, leaf and fruit senescence, root and fruit growth and development of seeds in the fruit (Plackett and Wilson, 2016;Satish and Manju, 2018). The beneficial effect of GA 3 on different indoor plants had been reported by prior research who concluded that GA 3 induced flowering (Huang et al, 2015;Gad et al, 2016) promoted plant height, leaf area, number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh and dry weights, relative growth rate as well as increased the contents of total chlorophylls, total carbohydrates, and macronutrients (Mazher et al, 2014;Hananfy et al, 2019).…”

“…However, we observed genotypic variability between the varieties under GA 3 treated and nontreated conditions. Application of GA 3 produced the highest fresh weight in V. radiata (Baliah et al, 2018), pea (Lazlo, 1974), and Ixora coccinea (Gad et al, 2016). Most favorable effect on the characteristic of root length was highlighted by respective treatments of 10 ppm GA 3 as seed priming of V. radiata, and treating of V. radiata seeds with GA 3 caused an increase of the root length up to 2.60% (5 ppm of GA 3 ) and the root fresh weight up to 4.35% (10 ppm of GA 3 ) was evidenced over control (Kundu et al, 2017).…”
