Folded plate structures made of glass laminates: a proposal for the structural assessment

Abstract: This paper presents a possible approach for the assessment of folded plate structures made of glass laminates using a new connection detail. Following a brief introduction and discussion of the experimental connection detail, the results of conducted testing are summarized. An extensive numerical investigation using ANSYS is performed. Findings from these numerical investigations of the connection detail, namely a proposed load interaction and the influence of the kink angle on the utilization will be touched … Show more

“…Further analyses of this phenomenon are provided in the following sections. The failure 11 According to ETAG 002 low temperature limit could be extended down to -40°C for European Nordic countries if required [62]. 12 One additional test is performed on a spare sample, unloading the specimens after reaching 90% of the average failure load.…”

“…In accordance with Carvalho’ design concept, a similar connection can be found in the internal glass ceiling of the Zurich Stadtbad, see ref . Marinitsch also investigated a connection detail for folded plate structures made of glass laminates, being composed of triple LG sections incorporating metal inserts within the interlayer thicknesses. Based on experimental and numerical studies, it was preliminary shown that the proposed design connection − consisting of − can be effective for structures with up 15 m span.…”

“…Depending on the geometric configuration and the thickness of the insert (Bedon and Santarsiero 2018b) (Fig. 1), these connections are classified into embedded laminated connections with thick (Santarsiero et al 2017(Santarsiero et al , 2018Bedon and Santarsiero 2018) and thin insert (Belis et al 2009;Puller and Sobek 2012;Carvalho et al 2012;Denonville et al 2013;Santarsiero et al 2013;Marinitsch et al 2016;Louter and Santarsiero 2019). The studies on the embedded connections with thin insert show that the connection achieves relatively high load-bearing capacity but its mechanical response (i.e.…”
