“…CSFB12 levels were lower in AD (35.5 ± 13.7 ng/l; controls: 42.3 ± 14.4 ngll) but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05; type II error?). Our results indicate poorer nutrition in patients with AD (Abalan et al, 1990). PET Centre UZiRUG, University Hospital, Gent, Belgium Our previous positron emission tomographic (PET) study showed that in demented patients with large cerebral infarcts (MID) mean regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and the regional metabolic oxygen consumption (rCMRO z ) were lowered to the same degree in all cerebral regions, without an increase in the regional oxygen extraction rate (rOER), compared to patients without dementia (MI).…”

“…The degree of AD was defined as Folstein's Mini-Mental State (MMS) score of between 10 and 23 and AD was diagnosed by the criteria of the third revised Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Diseases (DSM-III-R); control subjects haad a MMS score above 23. To avoid any change in B 12 levels due to dehydration (Abalan et al•1987a), all dehydrated subjects were excluded. We also excluded all subjects obviously suffering from malnutrition or alcoholism, or taking drugs likely to interfere with B12 metabolism.…”

“…The relatively large increase in cortisol was explained by an additional physiologic cortisol secretion induced by the changes in plasma volume, circulation, and blood pressure . Standing for 30 to 40 minutes increases vitamin B 12 and folate plasma levels by more than 10% . For proteins, these changes were demonstrated as early as 1911.…”
