“…A high-resolution XPS spectrum of C 1s was also acquired and processed by Lorentzian–Gaussian fitting (Figure b). The C 1s spectrum of the original FG coating had four peaks centered at 284.6, 287.4, 289.3, and 290.9 eV, which can be assigned to the C–C, C=O, C–F, and C–F 2 chemical bonds, respectively. Their area ratios were 8.9, 14.0, 67.0, and 10.1%, respectively, which further indicates that the deposited FG nanoflakes were highly fluorinated with a limited number of O-containing groups. The F 1 s spectrum of the original FG coating had a peak centered at approximately 668 eV (Figure c), which corresponds to the covalent F–C chemical bonds.…”

“…The higher O 1s peak of the full spectrum of the thin tribofilm than those of the original FG coating and thick tribofilm indicates the more severe oxidation of the thin tribofilm (Figure i). The C 1s spectrum has five peaks, at 284.6 285.4, 286.7, 288.1, and 289.2 eV (Figure j), which can be assigned to the C–C, sp 3 C–C, C–O, C=O, and C–F chemical bonds, respectively. ,, Compared to the area with the thick tribofilm, a more severe friction occurred at the thin tribofilm, yielding the reduced area ratio of the C–F peak from 67.0% for the original FG coating to 36.5% for the thin tribofilm at the wear track center. The area ratio of the C=O peak was increased from 14.0% for the original FG coating to 36.5% and a new peak of the C–O chemical bonds was observed, attributed to the oxidation induced by the friction.…”

“…The deconvolution of the main C 1s peak in Figure b showed that the peaks at 284.5 and 284.4 eV belonged to the PdC x species of Pd/C and Pd/N,S-F, respectively, suggesting that C was incorporated into Pd for a carbide phase . Moreover, the C 1s peaks at about 286.3 and 288.2 eV in Pd/N,S-F were attributed to C–O–C and O–CO, respectively, which possibly originated from the skeleton of the organic carbon chain and HCOOH . In the N 1s spectrum of Pd/N,S-F, only one peak appeared at 400.2 eV, corresponding to graphitic N (Figure S9).…”

“…41 Moreover, the C 1s peaks at about 286.3 and 288.2 eV in Pd/ N,S-F were attributed to C−O−C and O−CO, respectively, which possibly originated from the skeleton of the organic carbon chain and HCOOH. 42 In the N 1s spectrum of Pd/ N,S-F, only one peak appeared at 400.2 eV, corresponding to graphitic N (Figure S9). However, the N 1s signals of Pd/N,S-C and N,S-C could be divided into four peaks, pyridinic N (397.1/397.3 eV), pyrrolic N (398.0/398.2 eV), graphitic N (399.7/399.9 eV), and oxidized N (401.7/401.9 eV), 43 which indicated that the N element in biomacromolecules changed from the original graphite to form pyridine N (46.4/46.2%), pyrrole N (45.5/45.4%), and oxidized N (8.1/8.4%) after carbonization (Tables S1 and S3).…”
