Background Caries prevalence has declined significantly since the introduction of fluoridated toothpaste. There have been several developments regarding specific active fluoride ingredients but not enough evidence to support one over the other. The purpose of this double-blind randomized controlled trial was to compare salivary fluoride concentrations of different fluoride formulations in the form of toothpaste with and without post-brushing water rinsing in adults. Methods The study included 120 participants who were randomly assigned to one of 12 groups (10 participants/group). The toothpaste formulas investigated included (1) fluoride-free (0 ppmF); (2) sodium fluoride (1450 ppmF); (3) sodium monofluorophosphate (1450 ppmF); (4) sodium fluoride and monofluorophosphate combined (1450 ppmF); (5) stannous fluoride and sodium fluoride combined (1450 ppmF); and (6) amine fluoride (1400 ppmF). Block randomisation was used to assign each participant to one of the 12 groups. Participants brushed with 1.0 g of one of the six different toothpaste formulations either with or without post-brushing water rinsing. Saliva was collected at six different times (baseline and at 1, 15, 30, 60, and 90 min/s post-brushing). Samples were analysed using a fluoride ion-specific sensitive electrode connected to an ion analyser. Results The demographic characteristics of the participants were not significantly different among the groups (P > 0.05). Time, toothpaste formulation, and post-brushing rinsing routines had significant effects on saliva fluoride retention (P < 0.05). Amine fluoride-containing toothpaste was the only formula that showed statistically significantly higher concentrations of salivary fluoride at 90 min in both the rinsing and non-rinsing groups. Sodium monofluorophosphate toothpaste did not result in a significant difference compared to the control group at any time point, in both rinsing and non-rinsing groups. Conclusions Based on the results from this study, no rinsing after toothbrushing in adults can be recommended when sodium monofluorophosphate containing toothpaste formula is used. It also concludes that amine fluoride resulted in a significantly higher saliva fluoride concentration at 90 min in both the rinsing and non-rinsing groups compared to other fluoride toothpaste formulations. Dental caries is a complex disease which is expressed as an interaction between various factors including the host, agent, substrate and time. The interplay between the dental biofilm and oral microorganisms is an important feature for development of a cariogenic dental plaque. Formation of the biofilm needs to be controlled through regular brushing in order to prevent the development of caries and periodontal diseases. Hence a study was conducted to evaluate and compare in-vivo the effect of two commercially available herbal and non-herbal (fluoridated) toothpastes on salivary bacterial count in 5 -10 years age children with 3 -6 decayed teeth. 40 children were randomly allocated into two groups I and II. Group I were provided with Fluoridated (Kidodent) toothpaste and Group II with Herbal (Babool) toothpaste. Participants were scored for plaque index and saliva sample was collected as the baseline score (day 0). After demonstration of brushing technique participants were asked to brush twice daily. The plaque index score and saliva sample was once again collected at the end of Day 15. The baseline mean bacterial counts significantly reduced from 37.65 to 15.57 in Group I and from 38.08 to 16.88 in Group II. Whereas mean plaque index score were reduced from 1.75 to 0.71 in Group I and 1.87 to 0.79 in Group II. Both Kidodent and Babool significantly reduce bacterial and plaque scores at 15 days interval. But there was no statistical significant difference between two pastes.

Aesthetics in dentistry have truly begun their role in the mid-twentieth century through attempts to perform orthodontic prosthetic restorations in the spirit of dentogenia, thereby making it as natural as possible.The aim of the study is represented by the identification of corellative aspects bethween the incidence of frontal edentation at young patients and the condition for a specific therapy. For the clinical study, 120 young patients were placed under observation, patients which showed up at the Paediatric Dentistry Clinic and private dental practices during the time interval 2016-2018, diagnosed with multiple and various pathologies in frontal area . The patients� age was between 5 and 20+ years, 34.21 % having the age between 15 and 20 years, 60.53 % with age past 20 years, age intervals which, although anchored within the young dentistry framework, present different morphological and functional features, which lay at the foundations of the selection or exclusion of one or the other of the solution therapy solutions of the partial toothless. Regarding the prevention of the therapeutic solutions within the studied group we observe the weight of the temporary solutions for the childhood duration, followed by restorations with composed materials, significant statistical percentages belonging to the fixed restorations with the metal and ceramic crowns, the lowest percentage belonging to the ceramic-type restorations with zirconium or fully ceramic ones, choice dictated by the social and economic criteria, at the patients in which the growth process stagnated, essential elements of the patient�s final behaviour with regard to the body scheme reception. Toothless architecture will lay at the basis of the prosthetic rehabilitation in full accordance with the factorial accumulation, embracing valences of high exigency at the teenager�s age, the frontal toothless being perceived as an amputation, forcing the teenager in isolation. In full accordance to the age and the particular clinical situation with regard to the successful esthetical restoration, the preparation and non-preparation actual techniques for the integrated ceramics constitute a selection option.
