Fluoride Dose Response in pH-Cycling Models Using Bovine Enamel

Abstract: The aim of this study was to establish methodologies for verification of the fluoride solution dose-response relationship using bovine enamel and pH-cycling models. Six models of the cariogenic challenge were performed, varying the time of demineralization and pH, time of remineralization, composition of de- and remineralization solutions, frequency and time of application of treatment solutions and pH-cycling duration. For the evaluation of the fluoride effect on caries dynamics, two proposed models provided … Show more

“…The cycles, in this case, are more frequent (6x 0.5 h in De/day and 6x 2.5 h in Re/day). Additionally, the addition of fluoride (0.03-0.06 ppm) into both de- and remineralizing solutions 3,11,75,86,103 has been proposed. For primary teeth, it is recommended to add higher fluoride concentrations in the de- and remineralizing solutions (0.25 ppm F) 94 .…”

“…The artificial saliva used allows for rehardening of the slabs between the erosive challenges for simulation of the in vivo situation 31. However, under clinical conditions, human saliva is also responsible for the formation of the acquired pellicle, which is a physical barrier that protects the tooth against erosive attacks 32.…”
