Fluorescent linear polyurea based on toluene diisocyanate: Easy preparation, broad emission and potential applications

Abstract: • Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) based polyurea (TPU) is prepared by TDI reaction with H 2 O. • TPU shows strong fluorescent emission as solid powder and in its solution. • The emission in UV region is intrinsic due to its phenyl and the adjacent urea group. • The emission in visible zone is owing to the formation of molecule clusters. • Paper strip dipped in TPU solution is used for easy detections of Fe 3+ and H 2 O 2 .

“…Nevertheless, for the Fe 3+ system, the Poly(Ani-AMPS) has significant selectivity compared with the analogous Fe 2+ . Figure 5 b displays the two linear zones, where the first is from 20 μM to 80 μM, and the second region is from 100 μM to 400 μM [ 39 ]. Table S1 displays the values of fluorescence intensity concerning concentration for Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ .…”

“…For that to occur, cationic α-poly- l -lysine (PLL) and oleate ion (OL) were chosen to build supramolecular films through the strategy of SPMSA, since amino acids are well-known chiral molecules and poly (amino acids) have been verified to display CTE 14 , 23 , 24 , 61 64 . In an aqueous solution, the ionic assembly between PLL and OL results in cross-linked vesicles, where PLL displays characteristic CTE but CPL silent.…”

“…1 TPUE exhibits notable performance among traditional thermosetting polymers, and thus, is deemed suitable to be used in various application areas, including automotive, aerospace, electronics, furniture industry, etc. [2][3][4] However, TPUE faces the intractable problems of recyclability and reusability because its molecular structure contains immensely stable urea bonds that cannot be decomposed even under highly basic and acidic conditions, high temperature, or the presence of special reagents. Therefore, there is a growing global concern for the resulting plastic pollution from stable polymers, which has motivated the development of recyclable and degradable thermosetting polymers to avoid waste and/or plastic accumulation in landlls and the environment.…”
