Publication costs assisted by GTE LaboratoriesMeasurements have been made on various aspects of the spectroscopy of the SeOClz and aprotic Nd3+ laser liquids, with emphasis on the latter. Unusual features in the chemical behavior are described and some apparent inconsistencies resolved. The formation of complex POzCl2-Lewis acid groups is deemed to be a major factor in the solubilizing of the Nd3+ ion in Poc13 solution. A consistent and COherent model is proposed to explain the observations.(1)
