Abstract:The manuscript reports on two mutations of the photo-sensory protein Anabaena Sensory Rhodopsin and how these mutations modify the fluorescence quantum yield with respect to the wild-type protein. Experimental results are presented and explained theoretically on the basis of mixing of the S1 and S2 excited states. This mixing modulated by electrostatic and steric effects, tunes the excited state potential energy surface, and thereby the excited state lifetime and the fluorescence quantum yield.<br>

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
