Flow Characteristics of Rectangular Broad-Crested Weirs with Sloped Upstream Face

Abstract: The hydraulic characteristics of flow over rectangular broad-crested weirs with varying upstream slopes were experimentally studied. A series of laboratory experiments was performed to investigate the effects of changing upstream slopes from 90º to 75º, 60º, 45º, 30º, 22.5º, 15º, and 10º on the flow surface pattern, discharge coefficient values, approach velocity profile and flow separation zone. In addition, a new mathematical relationship for water surface profile and a new correction factor to estimate disc… Show more

“…(2) for Q d = 0. The obtained values of C D related to h p /t correspond with the values recommended by ISO 4362 (1999) and were in agreement with these of Fritz and Hager (1998); slightly lower values were provided by Tracy (1957) and rather overestimated values were derived by Goodarzi et al (2012) for an upstream slope of 1:1.73 (Říha and Zachoval, 2014). Below the average derived value C D = 0.971 is used.…”

“…Numerical simulations were employed to investigate the flow characteristics based on the physical experiments of Goodarzi, Farhoudi et al [33], which were conducted in a horizontal rectangular flume that was 12 m long, 0.25 m wide, and 0.50 m tall. The broad-crested weir had two parts in the longitudinal cross-section: an upstream face and a rectangular crest.…”

“…As such, Iran and Syria coordinated policies to expel Israeli and Western forces from Lebanon between 1982 and 1985. 22 There were some tensions between Iran and Syria during the 1980s due to Hezbollah's rise, checking the power of the Syrian-backed Shia faction Amal. However, both took longer-term strategic considerations into account.…”
