“…Bales et al. (2006) concluded only flows under approximately 450 m3/normals ${\mathrm{m}}^{3}/\mathrm{s}$ at Wilcox are tidally influenced. The spawning patterns of Suwannee River Gulf sturgeon analyzed over a 2‐year period imply the head of the tide is approximately between the Wilcox and Bell gauges (Sulak & Clugston, 1998).…”

“…Saltgrass was present in the marshes adjoining the river, but occurred primarily as an understory species. The delta marshes have been shown to have a stronger contribution of freshwater and brackish species and a higher tendency to flooding by freshwater (Bales et al, 2005;Coultas and Lasley, 2001;Raabe et al, in prep.). The presence of saltgrass in different environments indicates that it may alternate as dominant, co-dominant, and understory species depending on conditions.…”

“…At its lower reaches, the river separates into two major branches, East Pass and West Pass (Figure 1c). West Pass has an average width of 275 m (Bales et al, 2006), and its bathymetry varies from 0.5 to 7 m (Figure 2), whereas East Pass has an average width of 90 m and its depth varies from 4 to 8 m. West Pass in turn trifurcates into Northern, Wadley, and Alligator Passes, which form its delta. Alligator, Northern, and Wadley passes are around 250–400, 150, and 155 m wide, respectively.…”

“…Tidal ranges are 0.6 and 1.5 m in neap and spring tides, respectively. Tidal influence can reach up to more than 53 km from the mouth (Bales et al, 2006), where the Wilcox U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) station provides water level information.…”
