The Atlantic Forest is one of the richest and most threatened biomes in Brazil. However, the structure and floristic composition of many of its remnants are still unknown. This study assessed the structure and tree composition of the Serra da Tiririca – SET coastal remnant, is the largest remnant in Serra da Tiririca State Park – PESET (Atlantic Forest, RJ). In ten 50 × 20 m plots installed between the edges and the interior of the remnant, we registered 403 trees distributed in 29 families, 59 genera, and 126 species. The richest and most abundant families were Fabaceae, Myrtaceae, and Meliaceae, while the most representative species were Gallesia integrifolia towards the interior of the remnant and Piptadenia gonoacantha towards the edges. The remnant had an average Shannon-Wiener Diversity of 3.69, a total basal area of 19.3 m2/ha, and an average diameter and height of 20.42 cm and 11.8 m, respectively. This study shows that the SET remnant is floristically heterogeneous and has distinct structural characteristics and stretches in different successional stages related to edge and interior gradients. Anthropogenic pressures on the remnant are likely to persist and are evidenced mainly by the forest structure.

The aim of this study was to analyse the existence of floristic groups in Seasonal Semi-deciduous Forest fragments under the effects of selective logging located in Tapurah-MT. The given clusters were allocated and measured, and each one had five subunits of 500 m². For each sampling unit, all of the arboreal and shrub species with a diameter at breast height (DBH) equal to or greater than 10 cm were considered. In the sampling subunits studied, the vegetation matrix was composed of the density of the 20 species in the fragment with the greatest importance. The presence of floristic groups was verified by a grouping analysis through the species association method. Euclidean distance with Hellinger's transformation was used as a similarity measure between the groupings, and Ward's linking method was used for the dendrogram elaboration. The number of groups was established by Kendall's coefficient, and correlations between the groups and the species were assessed. Once the concordance was determined, the number of groups in which the species were correlated was chosen. The species' auto-ecological characteristics, mainly the propagating material dispersion type and average DBH, were the main factors responsible for the species association and similarity inside each floristic group.

Processos evolutivos, bióticos e abióticos agem como filtros na composição e estrutura das comunidades vegetais. O objetivo desse estudo foi investigar a fitossociologia e a influência das variáveis edáficas na composição e estrutura da vegetação arbórea em um fragmento de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual, na Reserva da Biosfera da Serra do Espinhaço, no Parque Estadual do Biribiri, MG. Para isso, foram alocadas 25 parcelas de 400 m2 (20 × 20 m), distribuídas de forma sistemática. Os indivíduos vivos com diâmetro altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 5,0 cm foram mensurados e identificados e, dentro de cada parcela, foram coletadas variáveis edáficas. Foram calculados os estimadores fitossociológicos e correlações de Pearson para identificar as possíveis relações com a distribuição e estrutura da vegetação. Foram amostrados 1275 indivíduos, distribuídos em 131 espécies e 43 famílias botânicas. A comunidade arbórea apresentou índice de diversidade de Shannon (H’) de 4,1 nats.ind-1 e a equabilidade de 0,85 (J). A estrutura é formada por indivíduos de diâmetro pequeno e baixa área basal, a maioria dos indivíduos se encontra nas primeiras classes diamétricas. As variáveis utilizadas demostraram baixa relação com a distribuição e estrutura da vegetação. A grande proporção não explicada indica que eventos estocásticos e distúrbios antrópicos possivelmente atuam na estruturação dessa comunidade.
