Foram reconhecidos dois gêneros e 22 espécies: Piriqueta com sete espécies e Turnera com 15, das quais Turnera reginae é uma nova ocorrência. “…On this basis, studies have focused on evaluating plant biodiversity as a compound reservoir for therapeutic purposes, in addition to elucidating medicinal activities attributed by popular tradition [ 12 , 15 ]. In this context, Turnera subulata (Passifloraceae family) is a species with wide distribution in tropical and subtropical regions [ 16 , 17 ], used in folk medicine due to its pharmacological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, antifungal, and antioxidant activity [ 16 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ]. Phytochemical studies with species of the Turnera genus have revealed the presence of flavanols, alkaloids, tannins, cyanogenic glycosides, fatty acids, triterpenoids, and various phenolic compounds related to their bioactivities [ 16 , 22 ].…”

“…In addition, it is worth noting that the number of species indicated for the flora of Ceará (BFG 2018; Flora do Brasil 2020 under construction) is incomplete. Recent studies linked to the "Flora of Ceará Project: knowing to conserve" have shown how much the floristic diversity of that state is underestimated, confirmed with quotes from new records (Capistrano & Loiola 2015;Tabosa et al 2016;Rocha et al 2018;Lima et al 2018Lima et al , 2020Sampaio et al 2019a) or description of new species (Loiola 2013;Souza et al 2016;Sampaio et al 2016Sampaio et al , 2019bRibeiro et al 2017).…”

“…Most studies related to Malpighiales undertaken in Brazil have focused on their taxonomy and/or floristic surveys of different families, especially of Euphorbiaceae (Secco et al 2012), Malpighiaceae (Almeida et al 2018), Hypericaceae (Marinho et al 2016;Martins et al 2017;Martins & Shimizu 2018), and Passifloraceae (Costa et al 2015;Costa & Melo 2016). Recent studies of Malpighiales for the Flora of the State of Ceará have focused on Erythroxylaceae (Cordeiro & Loiola 2018), Turneraceae (Rocha et al 2018), Phyllanthaceae (Lima et al 2020), Salicaceae (Nepomuceno et al 2021), and Passifloraceae (Souza et al 2021).…”
