“…Our power function model has an overall predictive capacity of R 2 = 0.93 and is consistent with the R 2 -value reported for the ISAR power function model of 488 islands across the globe (Kreft et al 2008). It is also in line with the R² value reported for the Echinades islets group (R 2 = 0.84, Iliadou et al 2014b) and for some Ionian islands (R 2 = 0.89, Iliadou et al 2014a). The z-value is an important parameter that reflects the increase of species richness with increasing surface area.…”

“…During our field investigations on the island in two sampling periods with a 25 year interval, 351 plant taxa were registered in total belonging to 84 families and 246 genera. Of the taxa recorded in total, 42.4% belong to the families Asteraceae, Poaceae, Lamiaceae, Fabaceae and Brassicaceae, which are amongst the best-adapted families to the ecological conditions of the Mediterranean area, as is confirmed by many floristic studies of Greek insular areas (amongst others Panitsa and Tzanoudakis 2001; Panitsa and Tzanoudakis 2010; Kougioumoutzis et al 2012; Iliadou et al 2014a; Iliadou et al 2014b). This is also the case when floristic composition of the two sampling periods (SA and SB) is examined separately (Table 1).…”

“…1) was hitherto unknown, and for this reason the main objectives of the present study are: (1) to provide for the first time a floristic inventory of the protected islet groups, thus continuing current studies of the plant species diversity of the Ionian islets (Iliadou & al. 2014); (2) to investigate the floristic similarities among the individual islets; and (3) to explore the main factors affecting plant species richness in the two islet groups in order to highlight the role of geographical variables in shaping their flora.…”
