“…It confirms the successful formation of the PDA/PEI copolymer layer on the substrate surface. As for the M-MMT membrane, a typical characteristic band of 3620 cm –1 attributed to the stretching vibration of crystalline water and interlayer water could be observed . The characteristic band at 1019 and 915 cm –1 could be ascribed to the stretching vibration of Si–O–Si and Al–O, respectively .…”

“…The domain-limiting effect of interlayer channels promises the ability of a 2D nanomaterial membrane to control the internal transport rates of ions with different sizes and charges by their interlayer distance and surface properties, such as surface charge density and polarity. The sub-micrometer cross-layer channels could further amplify the domain-limiting effect. These properties demonstrate the potentials of a 2D nanomaterial membrane applied to ion separation. , Montmorillonite (MMT) nanosheets could be easily prepared from a natural MMT mine. , The low-cost and pollution-free production process of MMT nanosheets guarantees its wide use potential in ion separation. However, MMT consists of negatively charged hydrated magnesium-aluminosilicate-layered flakes and interlaminar cations. The naturally separated MMT nanosheets are negatively charged, which is inefficient in the separation of mono- and divalent cations without charge modulation.…”

“…[35] Alternatively, a sequential filtration process can be conducted to obtain a dual-layer photothermal membrane for enhanced performance or asymmetric design, such as a Janus configuration. [40,49,50] The filtration substrates may also be regarded as a part of Janus membranes in many cases. The advantages of Janus photothermal membranes in solar-driven evaporation will be discussed in the following section.…”
