There have been efforts to investigate the effectiveness of the flipped learning strategy in the development of scientific research skills (SRS) in the procedural research course among higher education diploma students. However, studies examining the effectiveness of the flipped learning strategy in the development of SRS are, thus far, rare. This study adopted a quasi-experimental design, with two types of teaching methods. One research group was assigned to the flipped learning teaching method (n = 30) and the other to the conventional teaching method (n = 30). A multiple-choice SRS test was developed and used. The results showed that the flipped learning teaching method was more effective than the conventional teaching method, in gauging students’ SRS.

Pedagogical changes and adaptation of new models in teaching and learning should be considered as a means to develop a nation. One of the most popular growing models is flipped learning. Flipped learning is widely used all over the world in the teaching of different fields and subjects. It promotes meaningful learning, more student-centered rather than teacher-centered and is commonly aided with technological equipment such as pre-recorded videos, mobile apps or simply watching videos on YouTube before coming to the class. This paper reviews the level of participants, methodological approaches and the discipline of flipped learning research based on nineteen selected articles published in 2015 until 2019. The inductive content analysis examined the participants' level, the methodological approaches used in conducting their research as well as the field of the research. Data was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings suggested that flipped learning is a great approach to be applied in the classroom regardless of the field of the study. It also could be an effective teaching method in the 21st century of education. Contribution/Originality: This paper's main objective was to find out the common areas that researchers look at when conducting a study which is the target population, methodologies and research areas. The findings can be used by educators and stakeholders in implementing flipped learning in their institutions.

Flipped-Small Private Tuition Online Course in Learning English for Rural Students

There is still a lack of studies to implement a Small Private Online Course for learning communities. This study aimed to identify the teaching and learning (T&L) process carried out when using an English Flipped-Small Private Tuition Online Course (EESPtoc) based on Gagne’s theory. Using purposive sampling, respondents were selected among rural primary school students. The respondents were introduced to the EESPtoc, which is a free tuition online platform for 4 sessions. A questionnaire and interview were used to collect data. SPSS software was used for data analysis in the form of descriptive statistics. Findings show that students have positive responses toward the use of EESPtoc and the interview had also supported the finding of the survey. To enhance this study, further research is recommended to look into the long-term effects of exploring retention of knowledge and skills from the use of the EESPtoc in the T&L process.
