Flexural-Torsional Buckling of H-Beams with Corrugated Webs

Abstract: To analyze the flexural and torsional buckling of H-beams with corrugated webs, the stress characteristics were compared with beams with plat webs firstly, then, the previous methods calculating warping constant of the H-beams with corrugated webs was discussed. Based on such works, a new calculation method was put forward. This method is simple in shape, by which the warping constant can be calculated easily. To test the accuracy of the method, plenty of numerical simulation models of beams under uniform bend… Show more

“…In addition to Lindner [38] and Moon et al [41] approaches, three more proposals have been presented in the literature and are used for comparison purposes in this paper. Zhang et al [42] follows the same premise of Lindner, that of only modifying the warping constant. They propose the following formula A totally different approach was made by Sayed-Ahmed [39].…”

“…Zhang et al [3], presents a method for calculating the critical buckling moment in a way similar to that presented by Moon et al [2], Zhang et al, also rely on the assumptions first presented by lindner, stating that moment of inertia about the weak axis Iz and the torsion constant It of the girders with a corrugated web can be assumed to be equal to those of a girder with a flat web, and that the increased critical buckling moment is caused only by an increased warping constant Iw. The approach suggested by Zhang et al, for obtaining the warping constant of a girder with corrugated web is based on the expression for the warping constant of a prismatic girder with a flat, eccentric web.…”
