Flexural strength of delaminated composite plate – An experimental validation

Abstract: In the present work, the flexural strength of delaminated composite plate has been analysed numerically and compared with experimental results. For the numerical investigation, a general mathematical model of the laminated composite plate with and without delamination has been developed using two higher-order kinematic models. The desired governing equation is obtained using variational approach and discretised with the help of the isoparametric finite element steps. The flexural responses of the delaminated s… Show more

“…Xiao et al [34] analysed static infinitesimal deformations of thick laminated composite elastic plates using a higher-order shear and normal deformable plate theory (HOSNDPT) via a meshless method under different support conditions. The influence of delamination on the flexural responses has also been investigated in detail by numerous researchers [35,36]. The commercial FE tools such as ANSYS have been utilized by various researchers to study the free vibration responses of laminated composite intact [37] as well as damaged beams [38] and hybrid laminates [39].…”

“…Some researchers investigated experimentally to know the behaviour of delaminated FRP composites subjected to pure bending (Gong et al , 2016; Kinawy et al , 2012; Kopparthi et al , 2020b) and three-point bending (Bondyra et al , 2012; Sahoo et al , 2015; Hirwani et al ., 2017, 2018; Dominik, 2019; Amaro et al , 2011; Yap et al , 2008; Guan et al , 2020; Kopparthi et al , 2020a). In pure bending, composite failure occurs due to delamination driven buckling (Kinawy et al , 2012) and local buckling increases with delamination growth (Gong et al , 2016; Kopparthi et al , 2020b).…”

The position of delamination also alters distribution of shear stress (Amaro et al , 2011) and flexural response of the FRP laminate (Hirwani et al , 2018; Amaro et al , 2011).…”
