Flexible polyurethane foams reinforced with organic and inorganic nanofillers

Abstract: The effect of three different types of cellulose nanofillers on the morphology, mechanical, and thermal properties of flexible polyurethane foam was studied. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), and cellulose filaments (CelFil) were used as fillers at 0.1-0.8 wt% loading levels. The comparison of the results showed that smaller loading levels resulted in foams with better performance in almost all cases. In the next step, the properties of foams containing CNC, CNF, or CelFil at 0.025%-0.… Show more

“…Finally, considering that the foam without nanosilica presented a density value of 45.61 kg/m 3 , it can be also stated that this filler increased the foams final density. This effect agrees with that observed for other fillers, that of increased the viscosity of the foaming system, hampering the CO 2 expansion and obtaining denser foams [35][36][37].…”

“…In order to alleviate this problem, the development of biomass resources and the preparation of bio‐based materials have gradually attracted the attention of researchers 11‐15 . Nowadays, the concerning of natural polymers reinforced composite materials has been drawn for the excellent mechanical properties as well as the ecofriendly nature of the fillers 16‐21 . The bagasse fiber is a kind of byproducts in sugar industry with abundant source and low cost.…”
