Flexible oxidation of styrene using TBHP over zirconia supported mono-copper substituted phosphotungstate

Abstract: Mono-copper substituted phosphotungstate was supported on hydrous zirconia by wet impregnation, characterized and evaluated for its catalytic activity in the solvent-free flexible oxidation of styrene using TBHP as oxidant.

“…The FT‐IR spectrum of NM‐SiO 2 @SiPA‐MA‐Arg showed the bands at about 2750–350 and 1650 cm −1 assigned to the stretching of the carboxylic acid and guanidine part of arginine. Based on the literature, the observed stretching frequencies at 891, 951 and 1079 cm −1 are attributed to P−O, W=O and W−O−W bands of the terminal oxygen of polyoxometalate moiety, respectively [52,53] . The latter signal has overlapped with strong stretching frequencies of CH 2 .…”

“…Transition metal coordination polymers and metal–organic frameworks were used to catalyze the oxidation of styrene previously. [ 50,51 ] Many results suggested that the acidic condition is more conducive to the catalytic reaction. [ 52–54 ] Hence, the different amounts of HCl were used to investigate its influence.…”

“…The oxidation of styrene using TBHP over zirconia supported mono-copper substituted phosphotungstate was studied by Sadasivan and coworkers [ 99 ]. The heterogeneous catalyst involving mono-copper substituted phosphotungstate and hydrous zirconia was prepared using the wet impregnation method and further evaluated for solvent-free oxidation of styrene.…”
