Flexible and Transparent Electrothermal Film Heaters Based on Graphene Materials

Abstract: High-performance and novel graphene-based electrothermal films are fabricated through a simple yet versatile solution process. Their electrothermal performances are studied in terms of applied voltage, heating rate, and input power density. The electrothermal films annealed at high temperature show high transmittance and display good heating performance. For example, the graphene-based film annealed at 800 °C, which shows transmittance of over 80% at 550 nm, can reach a saturated temperature of up to 42 °C whe… Show more

“…Quartz wafers, spin-coated by graphene oxide (GO) and annealed at a high-temperature (e.g. 1000 °C), exhibited a high-transparency, and showed great potential as heating, defrosting and antifogging devices [22]. The batch production of large-area, uniform graphene films on solid glass was realized by a catalyst-free atmospheric-pressure CVD approach [23].…”

“…The exceptional optoelectrical and thermal properties of graphene offer many advantages for producing transparent heaters [47]. It is suggested that the CVD-grown large-scale graphene films could be used for the fabrication of transparent heaters [45,47]. As illustrated in Fig.…”

“…Due to a wide range of applications including outdoor displays, vehicle window defrosters, heating retaining windows, and other heating systems, transparent and flexible film heaters have attracted growing interest [45,46]. Although ITO has been widely used to prepare transparent heating films, the drawbacks of ITO, including limited availability of indium, intolerance to acid or base and fragility under mechanical bending, limit its future applications [12].…”

“…The resistance of graphene synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), the acknowledged well‐suited method for growing large‐area and high quality graphene, can low to several hundreds of Ω sq –1 on nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) 7. For the graphene prepared by another common used methods, chemical and thermal methods, the sheet resistance of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) can reduce to ≈640 Ω sq –1 after thermal annealing at 1000 °C 8. When used in practical applications, these graphene films exhibited better performance than other metal conductive materials and carbon materials.…”
