Flavonoids ofCalligonum polygonoidesand their cytotoxicity

Abstract: Context Calligonum polygonoides L. subsp. comosum L' Hér. (Polygonaceae), locally known as ''arta'', is a slow-growing small leafless desert shrub. Objective Isolation, structure elucidation and evaluation of cytotoxic activity of flavonoids from C. polygonoides aerial parts. Materials and methods Flavonoids in the hydroalcoholic extract of the of C. polygonoides were isolated and purified using column chromatography and preparative HPLC. The structures of the isolated flavonoids were elucidated on the basis o… Show more

“…Cytotoxic activity of flavonoids was reported to be related to the origin of cancer cells [29]. AG was previously reported to exert highly cytotoxic effects on HepG2 cells [30]. Kaempferol, which is a phytoestrogen belonging to the flavonoids mostly found in fruits and plants, has activity against many types of cancer via regulating a variety of cancer cell features, such as cell cycle [31], inflammation [32, 33], and apoptosis [34, 35].…”

“…Rhamnocitrin bioavailability has also not been reported. It exhibited significant cytotoxicity against HeLa cells [35]. Astragalin was shown to be cytotoxic to cultured human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells, but not human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 [57].…”
