Flavonoids from the GenusSolanum

Abstract: Abstract:In Brazil, the Solanaceae family has 31 genus and about 500 native species. The genus Solanum is the largest and most complex of his family. It is estimated that the genus consists about 1500 species and 5000 epithets that are located in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, South America being the center of greatest diversity of his kind. The class of secondary metabolites found in most species of the genus Solanum are flavonoids and alkaloids on which the flavonoids are involved in a variet… Show more

“…Finally, the nematicidal activity of the CAREs of the three solanaceous species herein evaluated may be related to the presence of secondary metabolites of different chemical classes such as alkaloids, tannins, terpenes, triterpenes, flavonoids, coumarins, among other compounds previously mentioned in the literature for plants of the family Solanaceae (Pereira et al, 2016). In this context, the technique called solid phase extraction (SPE) has been used to conduct molecular investigation of CAREs.…”

“…The family Solanaceae A. L. Jussieu is considered one of the largest groups of angiosperms present in the world and is represented by about 3,000 species distributed in 106 genera, being reported in several studies as plant species rich in bioactive secondary metabolites (Pereira et al, 2016). Among these genera, Solanum L. is the largest and most complex.…”

“…The term flavonoid was derived from the Latin "flavus," which means yellow, and they are essential in the color of flowers. Flavonoids are biosynthesized from the phenylpropanoid route, a mixed route, in which part of the flavonoid skeleton is derived from shikimic acid and the other from acetyl-CoA (Pereira et al, 2016) (Figure 6).…”
