Flavonoids from Tephrosia aequilata

Abstract: From the roots of the plant Tephrosia aequilata Baker, five flavonoids were isolated of which, 3,4:8,9-dimethylenedioxypterocarpan is reported for the first time. Its structure and those of the already known flavonoids were established by physical and spectroscopic analysis. Application of 2D NMR techniques was useful for complete characterization of the new pterocarpan as well as the other known flavonoids.

“…Demethylpraecansone B 63 and praecansone B 64 showed a low activity on the mammalian stage of T. b. rhodesiense (IC 50 = 15-16 µM) and no cytotoxicity towards L6 cells, while praecansone A 65 and its Z-isomer 66 were inactive. 55 Cissampeloflavone 67 is a chalcone-flavone dimer isolated from the aerial parts of Cissampelos pareira (Menispermaceae) with a good activity on T. b. rhodesiense bloodstream forms (IC 50 = 1 µM) and a SI of 173 when compared to KB cells. 56 However, other biflavonoids such as amentoflavone 68 and podocarpusflavones A 69 and B 70 isolated from the leaves of Celaenodendron mexicanum (Euphorbiaceae) were inactive on T. b. brucei.…”

“…The spectral data of synthetic materials 1-4 were in agreement with those of the natural products reported in the literature. 3,5,7,8 In conclusion, concise total syntheses of naturally occurring β-hydroxypyranochalcones, purpurenone (1), its derivative 2, praecansone B (3), and pongapinone A (4) were carried out starting from 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone (6) or 6-methoxy-2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone through benzopyran formation reactions followed by O-methylations and subsequent coupling reactions.…”

“…Observouse ainda a presença de compostos contendo o sistema dimetilcromeno, corroborando o descrito na literatura. [39][40][41][42] Os resultados dos extratos e substâncias de T. toxicaria nos ensaios de atividade larvicida contra o mosquito Aedes aegypti reforçam a utilização desta espécie como uma fonte de substâncias com potencial inseticida e justificam a sua utilização como defensivo agrícola, tornando-a uma alternativa ecologicamente viável para a erradicação ou controle da dengue.…”
