Timber from eucalyptus and pines trees used in contact with the ground requires preservative treatment to prolong their useful life under natural condition. To obtain resistant timber fence posts to xylophagous attack, this research aimed to evaluate the preservative treatment with CCB applied in Eucalyptus dunnii Maiden and Pinus taeda L woods by sap substitution method. We found that Eucalyptus and pine treated posts had equilibrium moisture content of 17.33% ± 0.51 and 17.02% ± 0.27, respectively. The equilibrium moisture content was 10% higher for eucalyptus and 5 % higher for pine than that for untreated fence post. The mean basic density was 438 kg/m³ ± 21 and 395 kg/m³ ± 23 respectively, and the porosity of both woods was about 59%. Eucalyptus and pine wood presented high porosity and low density, which may promote a good impregnation of CCB preservative. The mean active ingredients of treated fence posts were 6.18 kg i.a/m 3 ± 0.41 for eucalyptus and 5.88 kg i.a/m 3 ± 0.73 for pine. Finally, the treated fence posts had a low cost. The average cost of treatment for eucalyptus and pine was US$ 1.55 per meter ± 0.14 and US$ 1.63 per meter ± 0.07, respectively. This price can be even lower if the owners had the wood in their properties. In conclusion, the treatment reached the minimum requirement of 5 kg of active ingredient per cubic meter of treated timber with a low cost, being the fence post apt to be used directly in contact with the ground.

Historical ethnobotanical studies of medicinal plants reveal important information about traditional practices of human groups and infl uence current understanding of the use of plants. Th e present article describes the ethnopharmacology of mururé (Brosimum acutifolium) since the XVIII century for the treatment of syphilis and correlates past and present therapeutic use. Th is information contributes to the appreciation of historical records in the contemporary use of natural products. Th e analysis of documental records is important for comparing information available overtime about the medicinal use and application of specifi c species. Th e present research was based on the analysis of a Jesuit work and other complementary documents. Th e medicinal eff ect of mururé is attributed to its latex, and dosage and adverse reactions are described. Historical documents stand out as valuable assets for pharmaceutical technology because they allow comparisons to be made between past and present uses of species as curative agents.

Erstmals wird eine kurzeund hochenantioselektive Synthese der Flavonoide Brosimin A, Brosimin Bu nd Brosimacutin Lb eschrieben. Schlüsseltransformation ist eine einstufige Umsetzung eines Flavanons zu einem Flavan durch eine Kaskade aus asymmetrischer Transferhydrierung und Desoxygenierung.Brosimum acutifolium ist ein in Brasilien heimischer Baum der Gattung Moraceae.D er Stammrindenextrakt dieser Pflanze wird in der Volksmedizin aufgrund von entzün-dungshemmenden und antirheumatischen Eigenschaften geschätzt.[1] Neuere Untersuchungen des Rohextrakts der gemahlenen Rinde zeigten vielversprechende antibakterielle Eigenschaften gegen multiresistente und auch ATCCStämme von Staphylococcus aureus.[2] Intensive Studien zur Identifizierung der bioaktiven Verbindungen führten zur Isolierung einer Vielzahl von Flavanen wie Brosimin A (1), [3,4] Brosimacutin L( 2) [4] und Brosimin B( 3). [3,5] Brosimin B( 3)w urde außerdem kürzlich aus den Blättern von Morus yunnanensis[6a] und aus Maulbeerblättern [6b] isoliert. Bemerkenswerterweise weist das Flavan 2 eine signifikante cytotoxische Aktivität gegen Vincristin-resistente P388-Krebszellen auf.[4] Während die absolute Konfiguration des Flavans 2 auf der Basis von CD-Messungen als (S)zugeordnet wurde,w ird die des Flavans 3 als (S)a ngenommen, aber ist bislang unbekannt, und weder die relative noch die absolute Konfiguration von 1 wurden bisher bestimmt. Hier berichten wir die erste enantioselektive Synthese der Flavane [7] 1-3 unter Verwendung eines neuen Dominoprozesses aus asymmetrischer Tr ansferhydrierung (ATH) und Desoxygenierung eines racemischen Flavanons mit kinetischer Racematspaltung als Schlüsseltransformation.Wiei nS chema 1s kizziert, kçnnte Brosimin A( 1)d urch eine katalysatorkontrollierte Shi-Epoxidierung [8] und anschließende 5-exo-tet-Cyclisierung aus Brosimin B( 3)a bgeleitet werden. Brosimacutin L( 2)w ird durch eine regioselektive cobaltkatalysierte Hydratisierung nach Mukaiyama [9] ebenfalls auf 3 zurückgeführt. Das Flavan 3 sollte durch reduktive Entfernung des phenolischen Hydroxysubstituenten [10] und Spaltung der Carbonatgruppen aus Verbindung 4 erhalten werden. Wird achten, dass das enantiomerenreine Phenol 4 mittels der kürzlich verçffentlichten rhodiumkatalysierten ATHv on Flavanonen [11] mit einem von Noyori [12] entwickelten Katalysator direkt aus einem racemischen Flavanon rac-5 mit geeignetem 5-O-Acylsubstituenten zugäng-lich sein kçnnte.¾ hnliche Desoxygenierungen von Ketonen ohne Enantioselektivität sind für die Reaktion von 5-OAcetyl- [13] oder 5-O-Methoxycarbonylflavanonen [14] mit Natriumborhydrid gut bekannt. [15] In Analogie zu der früher berichteten Synthese von 8-Prenylflavanonen [16] wäre eine Reihe von Ketonen rac-5 ausgehend von racemischem Naringenin (rac-6)e infach zugänglich.Die Herstellung der ATH-Substrate rac-5a,b aus kommerziell erhältlichem rac-6 ist in Schema 2a bgebildet.
