Flavonoids from Brazilian Cerrado: Biosynthesis, Chemical and Biological Profile

Abstract: Flavonoids are highly bioactive compounds with very low toxicity, which makes them attractive starting points in drug discovery. This study aims to provide information on plant species containing flavonoids, which are found in the Brazilian Cerrado. First, we present the characterization and plant diversity with emphasis on the families of flavonoid-producing plants, and then we describe the phenylpropanoid pathway which represents the flavonoids’ main route biosynthesis—generally conserved in all species. Che… Show more

“…Another issue is the search for new drugs to innovate strategies to prevent CO progression. Brazil has five biogeographic provinces, including the Cerrado biome, with biodiversity that allows both consumptions through popular knowledge and the development of new drugs by the pharmaceutical industry [ 6 ]. Highlighting that each investigated substance has a selection of molecules with specific mechanisms for each type of neoplasia is important [ 7 ].…”

“…From the common flavonoid moiety, search in CCDC database used unsolvated structures. Flavonoids molecular skeleton consists of fifteen carbon atoms formed by the union three rings, with two benzene rings connected by a pyran ring . They have a great structural diversity explained by hydroxylation, methoxylation, glycosylation, sulphation and acylation patterns of ring substitutions .…”

“…One of the main phenolic compounds is flavonoids. The wide variety of flavonoids is because of the diversity of chemical structures of these compounds, which are divided into different classes (Peixoto et al, 2019). Flavonoids have one or more aromatic nuclei containing hydroxy substituents and their functional derivatives.…”
