Flavonoids and diarylheptanoids are important groups of phenolic compounds that impart antioxidant, antitumorgenic, antinflammatory, and neuroprotective effects. These neuroprotective effects can be harnessed to develop treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
