Flame patterns of acoustic wave and flame interaction in a cylindrical tube

Abstract: In this short paper, flame and acoustic wave interactions under laboratory conditions have been reported. The test rig consists of a cylindrical Perspex tube and a fuel tube (burner) positioned along the central axis of the tube. The acoustic characteristics of the rig are measured. The flame instability with and without acoustic excitation has been investigated. A high shutter speed colour camera has been applied to capture many interesting unstable flame patterns. It has been found that strong flame instabil… Show more

“…However, these investigations are usually for some particular combustion design or only focus on control systems. Papadopoulos et al [14], Farhat et al [15,16] and Ehi-Uujamhan [17] studied the external excitation effect on a flame in a cylindrical tube. Interesting flame patterns were observed.…”

“…The housing typically encloses some volume and can act as a Helmholtz resonator, making the task of designing a controller more difficult. In the third way, a loudspeaker is mounted at one end of a Rijke tube or the two ends may be equipped with two loudspeakers [2,[7][8][9].…”
