Abstract. This study is based on the results of an experimental study. Data were analyzed qualitatively based on the literature and previous research. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of altitude from ground level to the characteristics of the flame. Data obtained from the three candles in place on a three-tiered shelf. The fuel is solidly formed. Then a solid become a liquid fuel and turned into gas because of the heating. The flame may occur if a liquid element is already in gaseous form. The data analysis shows that in the lowest region of the flame can be lit high but not wide. Fuel is not quickly exhausted, so that the emissions caused by residual fuel are relatively smaller. On the second shelf, the flame is lower and wider, so that the fuel runs out the fastest. On the highest shelf, the flame is shortest and widest, but the candle can be lit longer than those placed on the second shelf. The conclusion of the study is the flame of a candle in the room most durable is the area closest to the base. This can reduce the level of emissions and an indication of the energy mitigation.
