Five-Minute Cognitive Test as A New Quick Screening of Cognitive Impairment in The Elderly

Abstract: This study aims to develop a new evaluation method for quickly and conveniently screening cognitive impairment in the elderly. The five-minute cognitive test (FCT) was designed to capture deficits in five domains of cognitive abilities, including episodic memory, language fluency, time orientation, visuospatial function, and executive function. Subsequently, FCT efficiencies in differentiating normally cognitive ability from cognitive impairment were explored and compared with that of the Mini-Mental Status Ev… Show more

“…2 Individuals with mild cognitive impairment demonstrate impairment in any cognitive domain, such as memory, executive function, language, or visuospatial skills. 1,3 Screening for colorectal cancer, which is recommended to start at age 45 years, can be accomplished by several methods including a fecal immunochemical test (FIT) or colonoscopy. 4 Both require the ability to correctly follow a sequence of steps.…”

“…There are numerous cognitive screening tools with several limitations, including low accuracy in diagnosing MCI [8]. Out of the many screening tools for dementia, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) is the measure most widely used to screen for cognitive dysfunction [9].…”
